What are the Benefits of SureSmile®?

SureSmile has many advantages over traditional metal braces. Compared to braces, SureSmile aligners offer a less noticeable and more comfortable treatment option. This is because the aligners are clear plastic that blends in with the smile.

With metal braces, patients need their brackets tightened, which can cause tooth pain. The metal wires can also poke and irritate the gums.

SureSmile allows patients to remove their aligners to eat, brush, and floss. Cleaning the teeth and gums behind brackets and wires is often difficult. Because SureSmile aligners are removable, patients can easily brush and floss their teeth.

Removable aligners allow people to eat without restrictions, even hard and chewy foods. Patients can easily care for the health of their teeth and gums while realigning their smiles.

Although SureSmile and Invisalign treatment is similar, SureSmile will require fewer adjustments. SureSmile is a great option for people with more complex dental needs who require attachments to customize their clear aligners.

SureSmile® Treatment

Before treatment, Dr. Romay will examine the teeth and gums to ensure good oral health. She will also discuss your treatment options to ensure that SureSmile is the right treatment for your orthodontic needs. Then, she will take intraoral scans of the smile.

Dental technicians use your mouth specifications to create custom-made aligners. These aligners are made of Essix ACE® Plastic, which provides durability and comfort to patients. The lab will make cutouts and buttons to fix complex overbite or underbite cases if needed.

The aligners can also conceal missing teeth and fix large tooth gaps. Dr. Romay collaborates with the digital lab to ensure patients receive predictable results matching their anatomy.

Each pair of aligners is different and slightly shifts the teeth into a straighter position. When your SureSmile aligners are complete, Dr. Romay will ensure that the first pair fits comfortably. You will wear each pair of aligners for two weeks.

If you are interested in learning more about SureSmile®, start by reading the answers to our frequently asked questions. If you are unsure if this is the right treatment, schedule a consultation with Dr. Romay or Dr. Cross today. For further questions or to book your appointment, contact our Glyndon dentist office.

  • How long do you wear SureSmile® aligners in one day?

You should wear your SureSmile® aligner trays for approximately 20 to 22 hours daily. The more time you spend with your trays, the faster the treatment. The teeth need time to move slowly and safely into the position you desire for each aligner tray. For this reason, the patient must wear the trays as long as possible to ensure teeth movement during the treatment.

  • Can SureSmile® fix an overbite?

Yes. SureSmile® aligners can fix almost any malocclusion problems that conventional braces can, including overbites. However, you need a consultation with Dr. Romay. Some cases may require surgery instead of orthodontic treatment.

  • How often should I clean my SureSmile® aligners?

Yes. After every orthodontic treatment, you must wear a retainer to protect your new smile. A retainer will ensure your teeth don’t move again into places you do not desire.

SureSmile’s® retainers have a comfortable design and are durable. They can last up to 12 months withstanding teeth grinding without compromising effectiveness.

  • How long do you have to use Suresmile®?

SureSmiles® orthodontic treatments with aligners usually last 6 to 18 months. However, the total treatment time depends on the severity of the case.

The patient’s commitment level is also vital. You must wear trays for 20 to 22 hours a day. Failing to do so will extend the treatment time.

  • How do I remove SureSmile® aligners?

First, gently grab the edge of the aligner near the back of your mouth with your fingers. Then, pull it away from your gum line. The tray will come off with a little pressure.

SureSmile® aligners are durable and don’t deform easily. However, you should be gentle when taking them out avoid damage or harm.

  • What can I drink with my SureSmile® aligners in my mouth?

You can drink cold or room-temperature water. However, drinks like wine or sodas can stain the aligner trays over time. Therefore, you should remove them before drinking these beverages to avoid staining them.

You should also remove your aligners when drinking hot drinks. Hot liquids can deform the plastic on the aligners.

  • How long does it take to see results from SureSmile®?

SureSmile® works fast. Most patients begin to see results from SureSmile after about three weeks. On average, patients should expect to see results within the first few months after beginning treatment. However, the full treatment time differs from person to person, depending on the complexity of their case.

You will change aligners every 1 to 2 weeks, gradually moving your teeth into place. Regular check-ups with Dr. Romay ensures progress is on track. Many patients notice small improvements within the first few weeks.

  • How often should I clean my SureSmile® aligners?

You need to clean your aligners every day. We suggest cleaning them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and warm running water at least once a day. However, cleaning before putting them back in your mouth every time you remove them is the best way to keep them clean. We suggest that you create a cleaning plan and stick to it. Creating a schedule that you can stick to is the best way to maintain your aligners.

1

Custom Treatment Planning

Each patient will undergo an evaluation to determine if clear aligner therapy is the right treatment for them. We will assess the bite, discuss goals, and discuss pricing options.

2

3D Scanning

If you qualify for invisible aligners, Baltimore Dental Co. will take 2D and 3D photographic images of your teeth, mouth, and jaw to create a precise model of your teeth.

3

Aligner Fabrication

From this digital model of your teeth, our clear aligner laboratory will fabricate sets of aligners that will create your new smile. The treatment is designed to shift your teeth into proper alignment with gentle, consistent movement.

4

Aligner Delivery

Your dentist will make any adjustments or modifications at the aligner delivery appointment. The team at Baltimore Dental Co. will educate you on the proper removal, wear, and care of your new aligners!

5

Wearing the Aligners

You will wear the aligners for 1-2 weeks depending on your unique orthodontic movement. It is imperative to wear your aligners for 22 hours each day. During the 2 hours they are not in, you will be able to eat comfortably and clean your teeth.

6

Regular Check-ups

We will check your progress - usually after every 5th aligner. This is to ensure your teeth are shifting correctly. We will also provide you with your next few sets of aligners.

7

Conclusion of Movement

At your final aligner checkup, we will confirm that you are pleased with the results and that your teeth have ideal positioning for proper function. Any attachments that may have been made will be removed and we will send data to the clear aligner laboratory to create retainers.

8

Retainer Phase

For the first 2 months after the conclusion of movement, you will continue to wear the retainers for a minimum of 22 hours a day. After the initial 2 months, you will transition to wearing the retainers at night. It is important to be consistent with the nighttime retainer wear to preserve the tooth alignment.
