Meet Our Doctors

MEET DR. LEAH ROMAY

Dr. Romay was born in Tennessee but moved to Pennsylvania when she was eight. Her mother, a computer programmer, home cook, and gardener, and her father, a mechanical engineer turned farmer, instilled a strong work ethic in her from a young age. She was always the creative, artistic type and loved working on a variety of projects. From sewing to crafting with clay, drawing, painting, and making jewelry, she was always doing something that required a keen eye for detail, precision, and fine motor skills. She was also a high-achieving ballet dancer, having competed in numerous dance competitions. Over the years, her love for health, nutrition, and biology grew. She often advised her high school classmates on what to eat, helping them make healthier food choices. All of these interests ultimately coalesced into her desire to become a dentist, which was inspired by her orthodontist.

Growing up in rural Pennsylvania on her parents’ farm, Dr. Romay was raised with a love for the country, gardening, old houses, and antiques. Her parent’s farmhouse was a constant source of projects and she learned how to refinish furniture, use power tools, frame walls, design spaces, and paint (she even painted the walls of Baltimore Dental Co. by hand - no painter’s tape for the corners required!). This is why she loves the historic building that houses Baltimore Dental Co. and is always looking for a good antique.

Dr. Romay attended the University of Pittsburgh to study Biology in preparation for dental school. While there, she also minored in Studio Arts and Chemistry. After graduating college a semester early with honors, she taught prep classes for students studying to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) and moved to Baltimore. In the fall of 2012, she began dental school at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) in downtown Baltimore. During her time there, she was president of the Gamma Pi Delta honors society. Her interests in complex cases, cosmetics, and restoring missing teeth led her to begin a residency in the Prosthodontics program at UMSOD.

During residency, she learned how to cast gold crowns, make dentures from scratch, replace missing teeth with implants, and manage and treat very complex patients. She also realized that her ultimate passion is understanding the root cause of disease as she witnessed so many extreme cases that profoundly impacted people’s lives. She wanted to be able to help people prevent such problems in the first place realizing that as a general dentist, she would have a much greater impact on more patients because people come to general dentists for routine care and prevention. A prosthodontist typically only comes into the picture for a short time, after which patients return to their general dentist once treatment is complete. It is for this reason that she resigned from the program to be a general dentist and open her practice focusing on whole body health and the connection to dental health.

During her year of residency, Dr. Romay met her future husband, Andrey, a prosthodontist (lots of dental talk happens over the dinner table!) After working for a few years in private practice, Dr. Romay opened Baltimore Dental Co. in the beautiful Baltimore County countryside, and she moved to the Hereford area. She has a voracious appetite for learning about the oral-systemic connection and is well-educated on the oral microbiome, disease progression, supplements, and functional medicine. She is passionate about helping patients reverse dental disease, overcome periodontal disease, and understand the root cause of their dental issues.

Dr. Romay is self-proclaimed as “crunchy” and you can often hear her advising patients to shop at local farmers markets and how to make healthier choices. Health and prevention are the key tenants to Dr. Romay’s dental practice and she practices what she preaches in her personal life as well. When she’s not helping patients, she is a mother to her son, Grant, and her two stepchildren Alexey and Alyona. She also has two cats, Stella and Finn. You can typically find her in her vegetable garden or the kitchen cooking everything from scratch to nourish her family.

MEET DR. CHELSEA CROSS

Dr. Chelsea Cross grew up in Catonsville, MD. After 4 inspiring years in South Carolina studying biology and psychology at Clemson University (Go Tigers!), she returned home to Maryland for dental school and to be closer to her family. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 2018 and then completed a one-year residency in general dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. Her residency experience taught her invaluable skills in treatment planning and patient communication and her time in New York made her quite the pizza snob!

Dr. Cross began working in private practice to make dentistry more accessible and comfortable for her patients. During the first 5 years of her career, she noticed the need for dentists who treat the entire person rather than just addressing specific dental needs. This patient-centered approach to dentistry led her to her new home at Baltimore Dental Co.!

Dr. Cross is passionate about the relationship between oral health and overall well-being, and she enjoys sharing that enthusiasm with her patients. She treats each of her patients as if they were part of her family, taking the quality time to listen to their needs and goals so that she can best serve them. Forming lasting relationships with her patients is her favorite part of being a dentist.

Dr. Cross lives in Hampden with her boyfriend, Greg, and they have a blast walking around Wyman Park and eating at their favorite neighborhood restaurants. She is dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle focused on exercise and trying new recipes! In her downtime, you can find her reading thriller novels, vintage shopping, watching The Office for the fifth time, or listening to her favorite records.
