OUR APPROACH TO ORTHODONTICS

OUR APPROACH TO ORTHODONTICS

Functional & Patient-Centered

A functional dentist takes a comprehensive approach to orthodontics, considering how treatment affects your overall health, not just your teeth. Functional dentists also understand how orthodontics can help improve breathing and address the underlying causes of orthodontic issues. At Baltimore Dental Co., we embrace this functional approach to orthodontics. Our experienced team goes beyond simply straightening teeth, focusing on your overall well-being and long-term oral health. We work to minimize invasive procedures and address the root causes of orthodontic issues. If you're seeking orthodontic care that prioritizes both a healthy and beautiful smile, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with us today.

UNDERSTAND-ING AND CORRECTING MISALIGNED TEETH

UNDERSTANDING AND CORRECTING MISALIGNED TEETH

At Baltimore Dental Co., we understand that misaligned teeth are more than just a cosmetic issue; they can impact your jaw joint alignment and contribute to tooth, jaw, and facial pain, while also creating areas that are difficult to clean, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Often stemming from genetic predispositions affecting the size and shape of your mouth and teeth, or influenced by childhood habits, dental history including missing teeth or ill-fitting restorations, misaligned teeth can compromise chewing, digestion, and even speech. Furthermore, the uneven pressure can accelerate tooth wear and potentially lead to TMJ disorders and tooth loss, increasing the risk of injury and impacting self-esteem. That's why our dedicated team is committed to providing comfortable and effective dental treatments to straighten crooked teeth, improve their appearance, and ultimately target these underlying dental concerns to enhance your oral health, improve dental functionality, and restore a confident smile.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners provide a modern and comfortable approach to teeth straightening, offering a discreet alternative to traditional braces. These removable aligners, like those offered through our SureSmile® service, gradually shift teeth over time, allowing for easy removal during eating and oral hygiene practices. Clear aligners tend to be more comfortable than metal braces, minimizing gum irritation and often leading to shorter treatment times, with many patients achieving desired results within six to eighteen months, depending on the severity of misalignment. Dental Bonding

During tooth bonding treatment, we use composite resin to cover enamel and change the size and shape of teeth. The bonding material blends in with natural teeth for an aesthetically pleasing result. It is minimally invasive and it only requires a single dental appointment to complete. It is the perfect solution for younger patients who need minor tooth work done or for patients who are not ready to commit to the full porcelain veneer treatment. Even though it is not as durable or long-lasting as other dental restorations, patients who take good care of their oral health and practice good oral hygiene can expect their bonding to hold up well.

Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers are high-quality, ultra-thin porcelain. Teeth that are out of alignment or have an irregular shape can benefit from porcelain veneers. Veneers can improve the shape, align the teeth, and create a straight smile. Aligning the teeth with veneers can also make it easier to clean in between the teeth.

CLEAR ALIGNER THERAPY STEPS IN BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD: SURESMILE®

SureSmile® is a modern orthodontic treatment using clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth without traditional braces. These aligners are custom-made for each patient, gradually shifting their teeth into the desired position over time. With its discreet appearance and comfortable design, Baltimore Dental Co. offers a convenient alternative for achieving a straighter smile. The steps to your clear aligner therapy treatment include:

1

Custom Treatment Planning

Each patient will undergo an evaluation to determine if clear aligner therapy is the right treatment for them. We will assess the bite, discuss goals, and discuss pricing options.

2

3D Scanning

If you qualify for invisible aligners, Baltimore Dental Co. will take 2D and 3D photographic images of your teeth, mouth, and jaw to create a precise model of your teeth.

3

Aligner Fabrication

From this digital model of your teeth, our clear aligner laboratory will fabricate sets of aligners that will create your new smile. The treatment is designed to shift your teeth into proper alignment with gentle, consistent movement.

4

Aligner Delivery

Your dentist will make any adjustments or modifications at the aligner delivery appointment. The team at Baltimore Dental Co. will educate you on the proper removal, wear, and care of your new aligners!

5

Wearing the Aligners

You will wear the aligners for 1-2 weeks depending on your unique orthodontic movement. It is imperative to wear your aligners for 22 hours each day. During the 2 hours they are not in, you will be able to eat comfortably and clean your teeth.

6

Regular Check-ups

We will check your progress - usually after every 5th aligner. This is to ensure your teeth are shifting correctly. We will also provide you with your next few sets of aligners.

7

Conclusion of Movement

At your final aligner checkup, we will confirm that you are pleased with the results and that your teeth have ideal positioning for proper function. Any attachments that may have been made will be removed and we will send data to the clear aligner laboratory to create retainers.

8

Retainer Phase

For the first 2 months after the conclusion of movement, you will continue to wear the retainers for a minimum of 22 hours a day. After the initial 2 months, you will transition to wearing the retainers at night. It is important to be consistent with the nighttime retainer wear to preserve the tooth alignment.

CARING FOR YOUR ALIGNERS

For the sake of your oral health and your investment, you should take good care of your clear aligners. It is important to rinse them before reinserting the aligner on the teeth. Brushing the aligners gently at least every night with a soft bristle toothbrush will keep them clean. We also offer a clear aligner cleaning device called the Zima DentalPod that can be included with your orthodontic plan to clean and care for them. Never consume hot beverages with the aligners in your mouth. This can cause them to warp and change shape. Never eat or drink anything other than water while wearing them. This will keep them from staining and remain in good condition.
